Chania is not only known for its beautiful nature and surroundings but also for its unique Cretan nightlife. We have limited our favorites down to seven to offer you the best nightlife experience this city has to offer.

Probably our favorite restaurant-bar in Chania. Breathtaking view of the coast of Chania, great- tasting cocktails and interesting dishes, this place is truly not to miss. Although a bit further from the main town, the view that will welcome you makes the drive worth it. The interior is also tastefully done with contemporary design in mind. Whether you go here day or night, the atmosphere is unbeatable. We recommend trying their desserts along with your cocktails and you can thank us later.

2. The Monastery of Karolos

Ever imagine having drinks at an establishment which dates back to the 16th century? Exquisitely set in a courtyard of a monastery turned art centre, this place should be on top of your list. This open-air bar offers a vibrant ambience, lively music, and a great selection of cocktails that perfectly balance Mediterranean flavours. The place is still considered a hidden gem, and the experience of coming here is unique as compared to what you can get from other bars.

3. Sinagogi Bar

Another cool experience in Chania is a visit to Sinagogi Bar. Established in the ruins of an ancient synagogue, this is another open air bar that stands out amongst nearby bars. Atmosphere is lively with a separation of rooms with two separate DJs. The smaller room offers Greek pop music which is perfect for that local nightlife experience, and the main space plays house funk music. The place is spacious with plenty of opportunity to score a seat, and cocktails are delightful.

4. La Bodega Wine Bar

If you’re a wine lover, then this might be the place for you. Both locals and tourists come here for its great selection of Greek and international wines. They also offer spanish style tapas and sharing boards that complements the wines well. The atmosphere is pleasant overlooking the old port of Chania, and gives you the chance to people-watch which is the best way to absorb the vibrance of the town. The place is perfect if you would rather have a quieter night but still enjoy a dose of alcohol.

5. Nama

Situated at the most accessible location in the old town, this bar will give you a nice view of the harbour. What’s special about Nama is its al-fresco bar experience. They also have an appealing indoor space with stoned walls combined with refined furnishing. This place also operates as a restaurant serving European cuisine. We recommend going earlier if you want to score a good spot since it gets busy late during the night.

 6. Boheme

Ideal for couples, Boheme transforms at night into a cozy bar. The bar’s outdoor space is surrounded by some greeneries centred by a big tree, and interestingly enough, this gives the place an authentic feel that you won’t get in other bars around town. The place has a rustic feel that is well-lit by multiple colored lights. They also serve a wide selection of in-house award-winning cocktails that’s worth a try. If you seek a place where you can have a nice conversation over drinks, then we think you’ll like this one.

7. Typografeion

Recently renovated in 2020, Typografeion makes our list. Known for their live music, you can often catch live performances every summer night here. They have stepped up their game by redecorating the indoor spaces giving it a more classy aesthetic. They have refined their cocktails and food offerings, with a latest addition of scrumptious pastries that will make your mouth water. Special experiences are also being offered such as Sushi Thursdays, which you should look out for.
